Checklist - SunMoon Dance

To Camp

 

  • Sleeping bag, mat or mat,

  • Two blankets, one pillow (optional).

  • One (or two) tarpaulin(s) or plastic(s) (3x4 mts.).

  • Flashlight with new batteries

  • 2 garbage bags of 100 liters (strong) to put all the clothes in if it rains.

  • Autan repellent or similar (preferably unscented)

  • Sunscreen

  • All hygiene products (minimum possible) must be placed in a cloth bag, without a zipper, so as not to disturb the other dancers.

Clothes

  • Clothes for the cold:  Scarf, a poncho or thick jacket, wool socks and wool hat.

  • For the rain: Waterproof cape or poncho

  • For the heat:  Cotton clothing, cap, hat.

  • resistant shoes

  • Women: Traditionally women wear long dresses or long skirts and blouses with sleeves (optionally chosen, decorated or designed by yourself, symbolizing your inner dance). You can wear ¾ or long leggings under the dress. Bring 4 changes of dance clothes (one for each day).

  • For the Sacred Sauna: t-shirt and long skirt in addition to the ceremony/dance dresses.

  • Do not wear shorts or top.  

  • Slippers (havaianas) and towel.

  • Men: For the dance, wear shirts optionally decorated with some design or decoration (with ribbons, for example) with long pants, or better yet, male Native American skirts (with shorts underneath). There are 4 changes of clothes, one for each day.

  • For the Sacred Sauna: shorts or bermuda shorts and a t-shirt, flip-flops and a towel.

Items for the Ceremony

  • Turkey bone whistle for those who have danced. New dancers received their whistles when it was time to start dancing.

  • Rattle and feathers (optional)

  • Two packets of tobacco.

  • Cotton fabric in red, black, yellow and white (25 cms each cut into squares of approximately 7 cms x 7 cms) thin string and scissors (You can bring 2 more colors - blue, green and pink), It is better to bring the number of ready-made prayer knots wrapped in cardboard so as not to tangle.

  • The number of prayer nodes will be advised in advance.

  • New dancers: 1 white face towel and 1 white sheet.

  • Those who have already danced:  do not need to bring a towel, just bring the white sheet (single) that you will wear on your head.

Rules

  • No alcohol, drugs and visitors. 

  • Fasting from water and food is recommended for this dance. However, the modification of this point depends on each participant. Talk to Felicity before the dance. Fasting begins after the Sacred Sauna.

  • Anyone who needs to eat until that time will be responsible for their own food (fruits, juices, plenty of mineral water, 5 liters is recommended, bread, sandwiches and other light meals).

  • On the morning of arrival there will be a person registering the dancers.  Everyone has to register, including supporters, moon mothers, dog soldiers, drummers, guardian of the fire and kitchen angels.

  • All schedules (Sauna, Orientation Meetings, Sharing and Beginning of the Dance) will be announced on the spot, on the day of the dance,

  • Everyone participates in the Sauna, without exception: dancers, support people, moon mothers, dog soldiers, guardian of fire, kitchen angels and drummers.

  • We will have an orientation meeting at 1 pm. Please check in at the quoted time to fully enjoy the Dance and not delay the start of the Dance.

  • Arrival time at Sítio Caminho do Sol:  Between 9:00 am and 11:00 am on the day the dance begins.

Support People

  • Take the opportunity to bring a friend who is interested in knowing the ceremony, and while that person supports you, he will be watching the ceremony (ceremonial dance / retreat) before participating in a dance in the future.

What to take:

support people,

Moon Mothers, Drummers, Dog Soldiers, Guardian of Fire and Kitchen Angels. 

  • Tent, sleeping bag, blankets, pillow.

  • Clothing: same as for dancers, ceremony and sauna (see above)

  • Each one will be charged a small contribution for food during these four days.

Food Before the Dance

 

  • From 1 to 2 weeks before the Sun Moon Dance, it is good to remove meat and spicy foods from your diet.

  • Reduce caffeine little by little (coffee, chocolate, green tea, Coca-Cola) so that on the days of the ceremony you don't have headaches and heavy belly.

  • Salt and sugar prevent visions. Use these products sparingly.

 

Arrival time

 

  • Arrival time at Sítio Caminho do Sol:  Between 9:00 am and 11:00 am on the day the dance begins. We appreciate your punctuality.
